Spyro Criticizes Prominent Pastors Over Silence on Insecurity in Nigeria
Nigerian singer Spyro has criticised religious institutions and prominent clerics over what he described as their silence regarding the country’s growing insecurity and socio-economic challenges.
In a video shared online, the artiste questioned why many churches and mosques continue with routine sermons and activities despite the increasing violence, fear, and hardship being experienced across the nation.
According to Spyro, religious gatherings at this time should be centred on addressing the country’s pressing issues and amplifying the concerns of the people.
He stated that both Christian and Muslim leaders have a responsibility to speak against the current situation and engage the government on behalf of citizens during these difficult times.
The singer also expressed concern over the continuation of academic and social activities despite the deteriorating security situation, noting that the circumstances should prompt greater national urgency.
Spyro specifically mentioned notable religious leaders, including Enoch Adeboye, David Oyedepo, William Kumuyi, Jerry Eze, and other respected clerics, questioning why they have not spoken more publicly and forcefully about the state of the nation.
He further criticised the silence of influential Muslim scholars and leaders.
According to the artiste, Nigeria is facing a serious national crisis, and religious leaders should not remain solely focused on crusades and regular services while citizens continue to suffer.
